Angelica "Gelly" N. Borromeo
is the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief
of Asian Enterprise magazine. She carries out the editorial
policies of the publication. Ms. Borromeo has been, and continues
to be, very active in the promotion of minority, disadvantaged,
and women-owned enterprises. She also takes an active role
in numerous civic and professional organizations.
She was recently awarded by the
Small Business Administration as the SBA Champion Awardee
for 2005

Gelly Borromeo Receives SBA Champion Award for 2005
SANTA ANA, CALIF - Angelica "Gelly" Borromeo, President
of Asian Business Ventures, Inc. was named the District Small
Business Journalist of the Year 2005 by the U.S. Small Business
Administration (SBA). Borromeo is publisher and editor of
Asian Enterprise, a magazine which has been serving the Asian
American community for over a decade. Her selection was announced
by District Director Sandy Sutton: "Ms. Borromeo is recognized
for her advocacy and support of minority business. For many
years she has provided educational information through her
magazine."
In 1992 Gelly and her husband Willy launched Asian Business
Ventures, the publishing company of Asian Enterprise, now
the largest nationally circulated magazine serving the Asian
Pacific American small business community. The first issue
came out in November 1993 and the magazine has become the
premier and largest Asian business focus magazine in the nation.
The publication's goal is to disseminate valuable information
to the growing number of Asian entrepreneurs across the nation.
Specifically, the publication addresses issues such as women
and minority business enterprise certifications and policies,
access to small business programs, procurement and business
opportunities and capitalization issues. The publication also
features Asian business success stories, which serve as role
models for other entrepreneurs.
Ms. Borromeo has been appointed to numerous boards of directors
and advisory committees including the Greenlining Institute,
Monterey Park Hospital, First American Corporation and Wells
Fargo Bank. She is also the President of the National Council
for Asian American Business Associations. She has been a delegate
to the White House Conference on Small Business, the First
United Nations Conference on Trade & Development held
in France, the First International Conference on Entrepreneurs
held in Spain and the 1996 APEC Business Conference in the
Philippines.
She was nominated by Kim Luu of Merrill Lynch was honored
at the SBA's Small Business Award Luncheon on May 12, 2005,
at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino, CA as part
of a nationwide salute to small business.
